Reading Between the Pages turns one!

My official Blogiversary was a couple of weeks ago, but life got in the way of my celebration. At one point I even pondered skipping it, but this first year of blogging has meant so much to me I just couldn’t bear not celebrating it with you. Better late than never, right?!

Just over a year ago, as a nearly empty nester, I was floundering around trying to figure out what to do with this next phase of my life. One day I decided to hop onto Twitter and look for book reviews. Wow! I was blown away by what I saw. I discovered this huge community that I hadn’t realized existed. I knew at that moment I wanted to become a part of it.

I spent a few weeks blog hopping, getting familiar with WordPress, and figuring out what I would like my own blog to look like. I had no idea, at that time, how much book blogging would enrich my life and give me the much needed direction that I was looking for.

I have met so many wonderful bloggers and authors from all around the world. It continues to amaze me that it doesn’t matter where we live, we all speak the same language through our love of reading. I thank each and every one of you for your support this past year and look forward to what year two will bring!

I would also like to thank my family who has listened to me babble on about reading, blogging, and more. I’ve bounced ideas off of them and they have read and given me opinions on countless blog posts. Their support means the world to me!

The Giveaways…

I really enjoyed how Janel@Keeper of Pages celebrated her blogiversary last year. She got my creative juices flowing and I decided to try something a little different myself.

I will be doing 2 giveaways – the winners can pick out a book or two as long as they total no more than $20 US dollars.

Requirements –

  • You must follow my blog to be eligible, new followers and existing followers are welcome to enter.
  • Book Depository must ship to you and you will need to share your shipping address with me in order for me to send you your book(s).
  • You may enter both giveaways, but can only win once.
Giveaway 1…

Over the past year I have read numerous blog posts giving blogging advice. I think these are fantastic posts for new and seasoned bloggers alike. I am always learning something new and trying to improve my blogging.

For my first giveaway I would like you to give at least three pieces of blogging advice in the comments section below. They don’t need to be lengthy, just some advice that you would like to pass on to your fellow bloggers. This can include a broad spectrum of things.

  • What to include in a blog post
  • Mechanics behind a blog
  • ARC’s
  • Time management
  • Creating a healthy balance
  • Blog tours
  • Social media
  • And so on…

What I love about this is there is no right or wrong when it comes to blogging. What works for one person may not work for another. My hope is that whether you have been blogging for five months or five years maybe you can find something within these comments that will help you in your blogging adventure.

*Note – as I am putting together this giveaway it occurred to me that this blogging advice may make an interesting blog post in the future. At some point I may organize these comments in a blog post for an easier read. If you do not want your comment to be included and your blog linked just let me know in the comments. Otherwise I will assume you have no problem with being quoted and linked in a future blog post.

Giveaway 2…

The following four books are books that I had intended to read in 2017, but did not get the opportunity. There is one that I regret not reading more than any other book on my TBR list. Which one is it? Those that guess correctly in the comments below will be eligible for my second giveaway.

Giveaway ends March 2nd and I will notify the two winners on Monday March 5th.
Thank you and good luck!!

  1. Happy blogiversary, sis! I’m so glad we connected! 😘

    Blogging advice. Hm.

    * Be yourself, first and foremost.
    * Have fun.
    * It’s okay to take a break.

I am going to guess that the book you most regret not reading last year is Another Woman’s Husband.

  2. Happy blogoversary! I am so glad you enjoyed your first year. I will have ten years in April, but it was a year after I began before I finally found my footing. At that same time, I discovered Word Press…and that was the beginning of truly enjoying blogging. After I discovered Goodreads and ARCs, everything started falling into place.

I hope you enjoy every year of blogging!

  3. Happy blogiversary! I still feel relatively new to blogging but my three pieces of advice would be:-

    1) Be honest but never cruel.
    2) Try to show your personality through your blog.
    3) Don’t pile on the pressure – if life is busy, your blog will still be there when things calm down!

Should probably take my own advice on that last one haha 🙂

  4. Happy Anniversary!!! I love reading all your posts.
If I were to guess which book..I’d say The Heart’s Invisible Furies. Only because that’s one I’ve been dying to read, too. 🙂

  5. Congratulations Tina and happy blogiversary. I like what you said about all of us being from different parts of the world but speaking the same language through our love of readings, that is really well put 🙂 Cheers to many more milestones.

  6. Ohh I didn’t know till now… happy blogiversary Tina! That first milestone is really the most special one!

I’m not sure what advice I can give but I’d say: do what you want on your blog, don’t let what you see on other blogs dictate how you blog, or how many times you blog. Feel good about your own blog. I do think that the longer one blogs this is something that we each find out after a while in a very natural way.
Second advice is something I tell every new blogger (in vain): take it easy requesting on Netgalley. Do I need to say more? I think not 😂
Third advice is: be patient. You will get more followers and will receive invites for blog tours and book post but it takes time. Rome wasn’t built in a day. The most successful bloggers started years before so they’ve had time to build up relations with authors, bloggers and publishers.

As for the book I think it’s Boyne but I would have loved your choice of Alessandra Torre 😉

  7. Happy Blogiversary, Tina!! I missed this yesterday, so sorry!! One year is a fantastic milestone and well-deserved!! 🙂
I think the book is Hearts by Boyne since that was the one I regret not reading the most too, lol! I finally got it for Christmas and STILL haven’t read it, hahaha!

  8. Congrats, Tina!! What a unique way to do your giveaways! I love it!

Okay, so…advice. I’m no expert but these come to mind:

    1) Focus on getting your blog the way you want it and try not to worry about followers right away. They will come!
    2) Be original! Have fun with it!
    3) Don’t let negativity or trolls get to you. Thankfully it hasn’t happened often for me (though once is more than enough). It really is best ignore whenever possible. Send it to Spam! Oh and speaking of Spam …don’t forget to check it now and then as comments from your blogging friends may get sent their occasionally too.

    And for #2

I’ve been going back and forth on this one but i’m going to go with
    “The Secrets She Keeps”

    Happy Birthdya again!! ❤

    1. Terrific advice! The spam is odd – sometimes a blogger who has commented often ends up in it. I don’t get it. I need to remember to check it more often myself 😊
Thank you Dee and good luck!
