The Grant County Series by Karin Slaughter – Mini-Review

Welcome to my Grant County series mini-review!

I have been slowly but surely making my way through the Grant County series over the past few months. I read book 1 (Blindsighted) and listened to books 2 – 6 in audiobook format. Rather than posting reviews for each book I decided to do a series mini-review.

The Grant County series is the on-and-off saga of Jeffrey and Sara blended with some fabulous mystery/thrillers! And then there is Lena – oh boy, Lena, Lena, Lena…what are we going to do with Lena?!

Book #1 – Blindsighted

This is the only book I wrote a full review for. You can find it here.

Wow! What a great start to a fantastic series!
Karin Slaughter didn’t waste any time giving us a sad yet intriguing mystery.
I love Jeffrey and Sara! There is a lot of tension between these two characters and the complexity of their relationship is quite evident. I was really excited to see where their relationship would go as the series progressed.
My Rating: 4/5

Book #2 – Kisscut

I loved how this book opened! We find out the current relationship status of Jeffrey and Sara and there is a shocking murder. I found the subject matter of this book to be a bit tough to read. That being said I enjoyed this book and did not figure out the mystery until the end. What is not to love about that!
My Rating: 4/5

Book #3 – A Faint Cold Fear

This book started off really strong! It seemed to have a racial storyline developing that I thought could be interesting. Somewhere along the line it veered away from that and I was a bit disappointed by the ending.
As a whole it felt unfocused to me.
My Rating: 3/5 stars

Book #4 – Indelible

The first chapter of this book was amazing! I was immediately drawn in and could not wait to see what would happen next. A couple of chapters in, there was a flashback to Jeffrey and Sara when they first began to date – no no no, I want to know what is happening current day! After I got over my initial irritation, I fell in line with the story and realized that this was the perfect way to share Jeffrey and Sara’s story.
My Rating: 5/5

Book #5 – Faithless

This book is centered around a very religious, almost cult-like group. It felt a bit slower to develop than some of her other books in this series, but my attention never wavered. The ending was superb and really intense!
It ended with a huge cliffhanger and the best part is I didn’t have to wait to pick up the next book!
My Rating: 4/5

Book #6 – Beyond Reach

Wow, wow, wow – now that was an ending!
I really enjoyed how this book brought the series full-circle. There were multiple references to book one, Blindsighted. At times the story had me on the edge of my seat and concerned for the characters. When I reached the ending I could not believe what I heard. I had to back up the audiobook and make sure I heard what I thought I had.
My Rating: 4.5/5

I am sad that I have reached the end of this series. It had been an amazing journey and I thoroughly enjoyed riding the highs and lows with the characters of the Grant County series.
If you haven’t read this series yet do not hesitate to do so. You will not be disappointed!
Next year I will tackle the Will Trent series which I hear is just as good if not even better than this series. I can hardly wait!!

      1. It’s almost a tie. I thought Grant County was extraordinary in providing so many dimensions for the characters. Will Trent does, too, and sometimes with more complexity, but it was just more impactful with GC. If I had to pick one, I’d go with WT just because of Will. He’s remarkable.

Can you tell I don’t want to pick one?😊

  1. I also enjoyed this series a lot. Lena was definitely a piece of work, but as you will see when you read the Will Trent series, there is “a Lena” character in that book as well. Not the same type of person, but a troubled, pain in the butt female. I liked your short reviews, they nailed the stories very well.
