In the city of Atlanta, women are dying—at the hands of a killer who signs his work with a single, chilling act of mutilation. Leaving behind enough evidence to fuel a frenzied police hunt, this cunning madman is bringing together dozens of lives, crossing the boundaries of wealth and race. And the people who are chasing him must cross those boundaries too. Among them is Michael Ormewood, a veteran detective whose marriage is hanging by a thread—and whose arrogance and explosive temper are threatening his career. And Angie Polaski, a beautiful vice cop who was once Michael’s lover before she became his enemy.
But another player has entered the game: a loser ex-con who has stumbled upon the killer’s trail in the most coincidental of ways—someone who may be the key to breaking the case wide open.
Wow wow wow – now that is how you start a series! If this book is any indication as to what I am in for, then this is going to be a fantastic series!
There is a gruesome string of unsolved murders in Atlanta. Michael Ormewood, a veteran cop, is on the latest case. With no leads special agent Will Trent has been sent to lend a helping hand in solving these murders.
I loved this book! The time period jumps around quite a bit and I was initially a bit thrown off, but it didn’t take me long to fall in line and I became completely absorbed into the story. I enjoyed the newspaper clippings that appeared in between some of the chapters. They aided in building the story and really helped bring it to life. It was like a story ripped from headlines.
The character development was top-notch! All of the main characters are flawed, which makes them all the more interesting. I love Will Trent! I found his background incredibly fascinating. His childhood was less than stellar and yet he has done quite well for himself, despite his personal challenges. I cannot wait to learn more!
I plan on reading one book a month in this series so I will be ready for the fall release of book nine!!
