It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? (October 14)

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly post to share what you recently finished reading, what you’re currently reading, and what you plan on reading next. This is a terrific meme that allows you to meet fellow bookworms and find new books to add to your ever-growing reading wish list.
This weekly post is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date.

At last our house is finally put back together and the repipe adventure is done! We got the carpets cleaned last Friday and my fall decorations went up. Now it is on to yard work. Sadly, the yard has been seriously neglected the past few weeks.

We are expecting company later this week to celebrate hubby’s birthday and us girls are going wedding dress shopping for my daughter. With any luck we will find a dress on our very first outing!

Hubby and I took a much needed date night and saw Judy. We liked the movie, but loved Renée Zellweger’s performance as Judy Garland. We thought she was fantastic! Afterwards we went out to dinner and I had the best salted watermelon margarita!

What I Read Last Week…

In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware – I started my week by finishing my first Ruth Ware. I have no idea why it took me so long to give her a try, but better late than never!

An eccentric group of friends and strangers, secrets, memory loss, a creepy house, and dark woods brought this story to life. The first half was a bit slow with a lot of character development, but the second half really took off and I couldn’t wait to see how it would all end.

The Puppet Show by M.W. Craven – This was a great read! I liked Poe, but loved Tilly. Both are great characters and even better working together. I took a chance and bought book two in this series, Black Summer, before I even cracked this one open. No regrets!! I can hardly wait to continue on, I hear it is every bit as good, maybe even a little bit better.

The Institute by Stephen King – Last, but not least, I listened to Stephen King’s latest. When I realized that this book was narrated by one of my favorite narrators, Santino Fontana, I knew this was a book I needed to listen to. It is a long one topping out at almost 19 hours, so speeding it up was a must.

This was a dark, creepy read. It can be tough reading about children being mistreated and the adult monsters that should know better. That being said, I really enjoyed this one and thought King was wildly creative in putting this story together. I really enjoyed the end up to the last couple of dozen pages. It felt a bit odd and forced explaining the events and what was behind everything.

Currently Reading…

The Rumour by Lesley Kara – Ok, so I haven’t actually started this one yet, but do plan to today!

Currently Listening To…

The Chestnut Man by Søren Sveistrup – Wow…now that was an opening chapter! I’ve been searching for a dark and gritty read and this book seems to hit the mark!

Up Next…

I have no idea! I am quite the mood reader lately 🙂

What are you currently reading?

Let’s get social…

Thank you for visiting and happy reading!

  1. Glad you enjoyed The Puppet Show and Black summer is definitely better, you have to love Poe and Tilly. I have the Chestnut man ready to read with another 30 books, if I could just stop volunteering for things I might get there. Hope you are doing ok. Great post as usual 😀
